Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Make sure your 9-volt battery is securely fastened to the connection cable, and the connection cable is securely inserted in the board connector. Toggle the switch back and forth several times. If the ON LED is still not lighting up, try replacing the battery with a fresh one. A replacement connection cable is available online from DigiKey:      https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/kitronik-ltd/4132/8635470

Using the DEB kit to design and build circuits will help to understand the different concepts that may be taught in a digital electronic design class. The DEB provides a practical demonstration of the function and purpose of kmaps, multiplexers, flip flops, state machine design and many more aspects of real-world circuit design work.

No. The DEB has many useful components embedded upon it. Additional components such as jumper wires, a variety of IC chips, and a battery for power supply to the bread board, are provided. You may supplement the provided components with others useful to your design process if you have verified their compatibility with the DEB.

The DEB consists of all necessary components for circuit board prototyping and hand-on learning, including:

  • Power Pins (4): Four power input connections.
  • Buttons/Switches (4): Four buttons are built into the board.
  • Clock and Clock Enable Pins: For precise timing control in circuits.
  • Input (0-3) and Output (0-9) Pins: For configuring and testing circuits. LEDs indicate power/error/signal status.
  • Prototyping Breadboard: 63-row standard size; easy to use
  • Solid Core Wiring Kit: 14 different sizes of pre-cut and bent breadboarding solid core wires (140 pieces) to easily create your next great design.
  • IC Chips: 20 Integrated Circuit chips in 10 varieties with schematics
  • Error Detection Light:  a BUILT-IN ATTN (yellow) LED signals a short condition. ON (green) indicator signals normal operation.
  • 9-Volt Power Supply: battery and board connection cable included.
  • Anti-Static Packaging: Helps ensure longevity of DEB components..

The DEB board has an embedded alert LED designed to light when a connection is incorrect. Once you are aware of a connection issue, check for common problems such as loose wiring, incorrect placement of the positive or negative terminals, a loose connection of a circuit component on the breadboard, and so on). Do not proceed without addressing the connection issue.

DEB designer and educator Oren Gall has authored a textbook, Hands-On Digital Logic Design: Learning Through Experimentation (2nd Edition), which integrates the DEB into several chapters. Additional DEB-focused problems are available in our online resources.
